There are many ways to access Plan B (the emergency contraceptive pill) depending on your circumstances. If you are on or near campus, H*yas for Choice is continuing to table this semester and is offering Plan B free-of-charge. Tabling in Burleith occurs every Thursday from 6:30-8 and Saturdays from 11-2 at 3714 R St. Tabling in West Georgetown occurs every Monday from 1-3 and Saturdays from 12-2 at 1414 35th St. If you need emergency contraception on a different day or time, email board@hyasforchoice.com to schedule a pickup time.
If you are not on or near campus this semester, you can buy Plan B over-the-counter in person or online. When buying in-person, emergency contraception can be found at most drugstores and some Planned Parenthoods or other women’s health clinics. The name-brand Plan B One Step is typically $40-50 which is more expensive than off-brand options. When searching for off-brand at your local drug store or online, look for emergency contraceptive brands including Take Action and My Way that contain high doses of the hormone levonorgestrel. Again, these are all over-the-counter options in the United States so they can be bought like any ordinary item.
Buying emergency contraception online is a bit trickier because it is most effective within 72 hours of sex and is typically a last-minute purchase after a primary form of contraception fails and. If you are opting to buy online for the future, the After Pill website offers $20 pills plus some shipping costs. There are other online retailers that sell emergency contraceptives at a lower price than Plan B as well.
